the term ‘queer’ always sort of eluded me because like

in some cases like mine it’s very easy to be like ‘ah yes queer is definitely what is happening here’

but like, does queer only apply to sexuality? but then many trans* people also identify as queer and being trans* is not a sexuality is it??? like?? so where does that leave asexual people who may have a romantic orientation but not a sexual one? and like ele just brought up people who present as another gender but don’t necessarily identify with it and aren’t necessarily into the same sex (like crossdressing i suppose)?

“queer” applies to those who are oppressed due to not being straight or not being cis.

“straight” doesn’t just mean “heterosexual” it also means hetero-romantic since the two are essentially the same. homosexuals as well as homoromantic asexuals face essentially the same oppression.

and lite already has informed me that straight aces are not queer but i’m still sort of confused why that is??

because straight, cis aces don’t face any oppression. asexuality itself isn’t oppressed.

Asexuality isn’t oppressed the same way queer individuals are but they are misunderstood, marginalized, and told they don’t exist.

I don’t know, when asexuals are being told they just need a good lay and they’ll get over it, I think they need some consideration.

like i said i’m not trying to present any argument i literally just have never had a chance to ask these questions so if someone can direct me to some further reading/discussion on the subject i would be really grateful u-u

Pretty well sums up my problems with the term. Queer and LGBT both fail to cover asexuality neatly (And people are always wanting to add more letters to LGBT to cover everyone). So I think GSM is just an easier term but apparently people have problems with that too so I don’t know. I’m new to this whole thing.

not wanting to get yr bone on doesnt automatically make you queer

fyi

This is why I prefer the term gender and sexual minority. It’s inclusive of asexuals.

#cool dude

The last thing I needed tonight was being threatened about what would happen if I didn’t get a job this summer.

Not when I’m sending applications, going to job fairs, and getting interviews.

I don’t deserve to  be compared to my deadbeat cousins, none of whom ever even went to college.

“Guide to loving your body:

1. Get naked and take a good long look at your body. Trace your stretch marks, feel your hip bones poking out, place your hand over your tummy and take a fistful of yourself in. Appreciate your scars and pimples, your uneven, large,or nonexistent breasts. Take pride in your un/shaven, un/cut, fantastically odd private bits. Hold up a mirror to yourself and study your body. Love it.

2. Be Ugly, reclaim words that are used to put you down and shut you up and scream right back at these fascist beauty standard reinforcing scumbags. Give them the finger and tell them to kiss your fat/skinny/somewhere in between ass ‘cause you ain’t got time to waste with their body hating bullshit. and remember, you don’t owe prettiness to anyone. Validate yourself by accepting yourself.

3. Wear clothes that don’t fit, that are too big or too small and show all your “problem areas” that cosmo insists you hide and walk down the street like the fucking fabulous queen you are. Sashay the hate away.

4. Do what YOU want with YOUR body. Shave or don’t, wear makeup or don’t, whatever choice you make is yours to make, and anyone who shames you for your decision can keep it moving. This also means respecting the choices of others, even if they differ from your own.

5. Surround yourself with loving and supportive people. Rid of the toxic bullshit in your life if possible, and immerse yourself in a community that embraces body positivity and diversity.

Marchers say: Stop silencing the deaf → michigancitizen.com

DETROIT — Detroit Public Schools Emergency Manager Roy Roberts announced the closure of the Day School for the Deaf Feb. 15, along with several other DPS schools. Parents and former staff members met outside the school March 12 to organize around the planned closing of the historic institution. They say the school remains a valued resource for the deaf community in Detroit, even while potential enrollment has been hindered by DPS administrators.

Khadija Anderson’s 8-year-old daughter has attended Day School for the Deaf since she was 2 years old. Anderson, now the president of the Day School for the Deaf LSCO, says Roberts has not responded to pleas from the deaf community and has only said deaf students should be included with the general school population.

That viewpoint is not shared by many in the hearing-impaired community.

“This school means so much to the deaf community because of the sense of belonging,” says former School for the Deaf Principal Jan Goike. “Here, you were just another kid.”

Goike says, with the support of the state-run DPS, the School for the Deaf could have expanded from a 38-student K-8 into a full high school program. The building also houses a hearing impaired early intervention program for infants and toddlers.

[…]

“Roberts fails to realize that the Detroit Day School for the Deaf was the least restrictive and most successful program for the hearing impaired,” said Stern. “We see this march as the beginning of the organizing for its continued operation its been the only successful way.”

I’m trying to catch up on all these protests that have been happening in Detroit. Expect more Detroit spam :)
